One of the unique elements that many people with Lewy Body Dementia experience is hallucinations, or illusions. Since not many people know that much about Lewy Body, and it is often misdiagnosed, we aren't really sure about just how common the hallucinations are between varied people that experience them as part of the disease. But the current understanding is that there are similarities across different people with some of the more typical hallucinations they experience. We hope that by providing a space for people experiencing Lewy Body, and their care providers/loved ones, to share images of their hallucinations, we might begin to better understand if there are similarities, or if the hallucinations can be influenced/shaped in positive ways -- perhaps through art and expression.
Museums already design opportunities for people with dementia to use art as a vehicle to reconnect with themselves and with their care providers.
Our beginning process will be to capture some images as described by people with LBD and share them here. If you have storybird you want to share, send us the link and/or tweet it with the hashtag #LBDartreach and we will try to link or embed them here.
